Our history to now
2006
In 2006, excel.altisHR was nominated for Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies program, and in early 2007 honoured as a winner! Recognized for its leadership and innovation in the staffing industry, the company has been the largest staffing supplier to the Federal Government for 12 consecutive years. We have grown from two Founders to 90 employees; one local office to five including Toronto, Mississauga, North York and now Vancouver; from a few temporary placements to over 1,800 people on contract assignments today. We are honoured to be named among Canada's best.
2005
2005 was a year for celebration! Co-founder, Toni Guimareas, was honoured as one of 'Canada's Top 40 Under 40' by the Globe and Mail for his role in making excelHR and altisHR industry leaders. And, excel.altisHR was awarded top prize by the American Staffing Association for "Best Direct Marketing Program" for HR in your pocket, a two volume mini-guide to HR written by Kathryn Tremblay. Expansion was also the name of the game. excelHR took over space on the second floor of 102 Bank Street - now home to excelITR - and altisHR in both Toronto and Mississauga renovated to accommodate growing teams. In terms of recruitment, excelHR retained its leading market position for Temporary staffing in the Ottawa area with 14% market share and altisSPR took the number two spot with 7%.
2004
In the first half of 2004, we saw the results of much hard work. Our sales rose by 21 percent overall—and by some 26 percent among private-sector clients in Ottawa alone. Having successfully launched two branches in the Greater Toronto Area recently, we continued planning the addition of yet another—but more on that later! Finally, we’ve managed to cut the paper shuffle and streamline operations by expanding our e-invoicing program; at last count, more than 200 clients were receiving their invoices electronically.
2003
We gave ourselves a digital facelift in 2003, launching new websites for both excelHR in Ottawa and AltisHR in Toronto —in both official languages. And we retained our position as the leading supplier of staffing services to the Government of Canada for yet another year.
2002
Our growth trend continued in 2002 with the opening of a second AltisHR branch in Mississauga under the leadership of Jennine Germond. Continually refining our internal systems, we completed a major enhancement of our internal IT systems, rolling out an SQL back end for HR Connect.
2001
Always on the lookout for new opportunities, we launched excelHR’s professional services practice in 2001. Led by Barb Streiftau, this new team focuses exclusively on placing mid- to senior-level government professionals. And we celebrated the fifth anniversary of AltisHR in Toronto . In its short history, Altis posted an average annual growth rate of 184 percent and closed the year with revenues of $2.6 million.
1999
What a year. Celebrating a full decade in business, we found we had a lot to be proud of in 1999. To begin, we topped the list of suppliers to the federal government once more in the first quarter of the calendar year. We were a regional finalist in the “Top 50 Best-managed Companies in Canada ” survey. And we were nominated by the Royal Bank as Ottawa/Carleton Business of the Year. Of course, we didn’t just rest on our laurels. Through the hard work of our team, we obtained ISO 9002 registration for both excelHR and AltisHR through KPMG.
1998
In the first quarter of the year, AltisHR became the number-one supplier of temporary staffing services to the Government of Canada in the Toronto region—just two years after opening its doors.
1996
A year of progress. Tara Azulay, an Ottawa consultant, launched Altis Human Resources—excelHR’s first Toronto expansion branch. And from Ottawa we also launched our fully integrated internal database, enabling significant systemic improvements to the way we do business: HR Connect.
1995
excel led the list of the top 50 suppliers to the Government of Canada in the first quarter of the year—and changed its name from excel Temporary Resources to excel Human Resources.
1994
Celebrating five years in business, excel achieved revenues of $1.9 million and a growth rate of 328 percent.
1990
Focused on supplying temporary resources to the federal government, excel Temporary Resources was launched in 1990—an offshoot of Morgan Mitchell Consultants to Management. excel was quickly accepted as an Official Vendor on Regional Master Standing Offer to the Government of Canada in the National Capital Region—the 70th of 70 firms.
1989
A company is born: Morgan Mitchell Consultants to Management—focused on permanent staffing in Admin and IT—opened its doors in March, posting fiscal year revenues of $110,000.
